Bummer news: Not going to the PCA in April
Because we are a fixed income household (it's a very good income, mind, but it's fixed), hard choices have to be made. This summer, we are going to the Magdalen Islands to bury my aunt and uncle, and we will stay a little longer as a family vacation of sorts. This means, however, that the budget I had reserved for the Popular Culture Association annual meeting in Chicago is going to have to be slashed, especially since we have to have the roof redone this spring. I have cancelled all my reservations for Chicago. I wanted to go, but since I am not presenting this year, it would really be difficult to justify going. It sucks. My parents are still coming the week I was going to be away, so I'll have plenty of time to work, which sucks less.
In better news, I may be able to participate in a summer field school in Montreal on Digital Humanities. I don't know how much I would actually learn, because I do know some about this . Still, I am particularly interested in learning about French-language resources in Digital Humanities. There are a lot of things to iron out about this, and the programme is expensive (but my Uni would reimburse me for it), but I really want to go. I could stay with family and the noon meal is included. Very tempted.
I'll need to discuss this with Mamou. I only learned about this earlier today.
